VAPING 101
Vaping is often touted as SAFER, therefore healthier than smoking, and there are a number of scientific studies that back up this claim, as well as anecdotal evidence, but it is NOT proven to be 100% safe. Vaping is the act of inhaling smoke-looking vapor from an electronic cigarette (vape device). Vaping simulates smoking but in a more low-risk manner
A flavored nicotine liquid called vape juice (e-juice) is what’s in a vape, but not all vapes contain nicotine. Each user is dynamic and as such decides the flavor and amount of nicotine they wish to use, if at all they want to. Vaping is a safer alternative to smoking. The tobacco cigarettes turns out to be the dirtiest and most harmful nicotine delivery system due to the over 70 toxins produced during combustion. There is no combustion in electronic cigarettes, so therefore no hazardous smoke or tar, which causes cancer of the lungs, bladder, liver and kidney to mention few.
E-cigs (vape) use a heating element known as an atomizer, powered by a lithium-ion battery, to vaporize a liquid concoction of propylene glycol (PG) and/or vegetable glycerin (VG), food-grade flavorings and/or nicotine, called e-liquid.
Inhaling the vapor resulted from activating the e-cigarette is called vaping. This explains why vaping is not smoking.
It’s an innovative technological intervention to nicotine and traditional tobacco dependency, where the user decides on controlling or stepping down on nicotine consumption. It is similar to using nicotine gum or a patch, but with the familiar hand-to-mouth action as smoking and sensation.
Propylene glycol (PG) is generally recognized as safe, but it is a known irritant and can cause allergic reactions. Contrary to popular belief, nicotine is not the most dangerous substance in tobacco cigarettes, but it is a stimulant that helps control stress, anxiety and stabilizes mood in humans, though it is proven to raise blood pressure and heart rate also.
The first electronic cigarette was designed to look just like a tobacco cigarette by Hon Lik, in 2003 with his first patent in China, the United States, and European Union between 2003 and 2007. There are different types vaping devices ranging in design, power, and vapor-making ability, but all have basic function and usage.
Similar to how the term “smoker” is used to describe a person who uses tobacco cigarettes, the word “vaper” refers to a person who uses electronic cigarettes.
Please be careful and practice vaping responsibly! It is illegal to buy vape products until age 18.
